POSTED BY: CARDENAS.AE@GMAIL.COM NOVEMBER 25, 2019 November 25 Las Anacuas grant Las Anacuas grant was surveyed from November 25 to December 2, 1879, by Duval County Surveyor J.M. French. Chain carriers included J.A. Dix and J.J. Dix. The map of the survey shows the road from San Diego to Los Indios transgressing the northwest corner of the grant. The Piedras Pintas and Las Anacuas creeks are joined at the center of the grant and become one. General Land Office, File 416 November 26 Methodist Episcopal Church Rev. Harris of M. E. Church South was scheduled to preach in San Diego for the coming year. Episcopal rector Dr. Horace Clark of Corpus Christi delivered a sermon to an active congregation. F.D. Perrenot’s two little boys were christened; Frederick Adrian and Edward Posy. Their sponsors were H.E. Parkham and C.L. Coyner, and Mary Croft, W. H. Simmons, and G. H. Reynolds, respectively. Texas Post Offices November 19 Area was unsafe Beyond Santa Rosa Rancho, 65 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, roads considered unsafe except by large and well-armed parties. (Do not know where Santa Rosa Rancho was located but 65 miles southwest of Corpus Christi would seem to be somewhere in Duval County.) Corpus Christi Ranchero , November 19, 1859 November 20 Rangers assigned to Pena November 20 – Texas Ranger Company C arrived at Pena and made camp six miles from Pena Station on account of grass and water. Company C consisted of one officer, 10 enlisted men, and a teamster. They had, among other things, six mules, a wagon, 600 Winchester cartridges, 700 pistol cartridges, a pair of shackles, a B.C. shotgun, five wall tents, etc. They used up 200 Winchester cartridges in November. Corpus Christi Caller , November 18, 1883 November 12 New postmaster for Benavides Alex Sterling was appointed Benavides Postmaster on November 12, 1883. Postmasters and Post offices of Duval County, Texas, 1873-1930 November 13 Duval County Politics, More than 400 Votes thrown Out on a technicality, changing the results County commissioners met on November 12 and November 13 to canvass election. They threw out Benavides and Rosita votes because the clerk failed to place the whole number of votes cast in the precinct, yet the votes for each candidate were plainly put down. Commissioners Corkill and Ridder voted to throw out votes. Commissioners Hebron and Eznal voted against. Judge Luby broke the tie to throw out votes. More than 400 votes were thrown out.   POSTED BY: CARDENAS.AE@GMAIL.COM NOVEMBER 4, 2019 November 4 Rangers patrol at Benavides November 4, 1886 – Privates McNamara and Picket returned from Benavides where they were sent to keep order on Election Day, Nov. 2. They arrested Juan Garcia and Phil Village (Villegas?) for carrying weapons and Pedro Benavides and Alejandro Cantu for assault to kill and murder. They were all turned over to civil authorities. (The Rangers probably were stationed in Laredo at this time. They were ordered to Pena on November 19.) Frontier Ranger Battalion, Company C Monthly Returns November 5 Some things never change In Duval County, the more things change the more they stay the same. The 1887 hunting season was beginning to open up, judging from a fine lot of venison hams displayed at Otto Brandt’s shop. “We think we can safely and truthfully say that Duval is the boss county of this kind of game,” The Caller reported.
